Day Six

Rest day from hunching over the drafting table. So, we make fresh beats instead. This one is quick and simple - part of a larger project I'm working on. Working title is, of course, "Day Six". Funny thing is, the riff I had in mind at the start sounded no where near what this wound up being. Interesting how the process uncovers other ideas. Anyhow, I'll figure out how to embed an mp3 player eventually, but you can listen to the track here .

Practicing the Absurd

Weird Al's Hamilton Polka reminded me to dig up these old files. For a brief period when the girls were much smaller, I thought it'd be fun, for absurdity's sake, to arrange popular tunes on the melodica. "Let It Go" from Frozen "Game of Thrones" theme. (Naomi's baby noises can be heard near the end.) And, then, well, a melodica in a house with toddlers became a bad idea. If I ever get back to doing these, I do have an old Casio SK-1 that I can use to arrange/practice on before recording on the melodica.

The Sticky Green

Rainy-day gardening. Tree No. 2 is a Dwarf Myrtle. I'm trying a technique I found on youtube about using sphagnum moss to develop better nebari. This tree's surface roots are pretty good already, but this tree looked to have had a rough time at the nursery and made a good candidate for testing. I'll start thinning out the branches if it still alive in a month or so. It's basically re-potted in sphagnum moss, with the original nursery soil underneath the moss layer. . . . Tree No. 3 is a Forsythia. The trunk and roots are crazy, and I bought the plant just because of that. I'm not wild about the leaf shape and size. Forsythia flowers profusely in late winter (I missed it) on old wood, so it made a good candidate for serious pruning. I'm leaving it in the nursery pot to help ease the trauma.
