Of Timesheets and ROI

A neat habit I've picked up from working with the software group: So we have to fill out timesheets to help keep track of effort spent on different projects and assignments. One would think it's a bit of micromanagement, like serious lock-down on slackers (like me, heh). I've actually found it quite useful to help maximize the hours when I'm adequately caffeinated and ready to hustle. It also helps measure one's own Return on Investment: Whether the the benefit is worth the effort. And whether my time is better spent elsewhere.

This also coincides with a trick picked up from fitness and nutrition: What is measured becomes completed. And so, with that, some very rough sketches from the weekend:

I probably will do something with the girl and bike. The guy, a bit of self-portrait, is just old-skool graf character practice. ... Also, about the ROI thing, Lisa's been teaching me to cook lately. This is last night's pineapple upside-down cake, definitely worth the effort:

Pineapples at the bottom with a sprinkling of sugar on top. We were out of brown sugar and used raw sugar instead.

The goods. We love Trader Joe's and is our grocery store of choice for most items. We've been using Splenda for a good long stretch now. Zero calories, lower Glycemic Index rating. Ya know, that nutrition thing.

Pour in batter. I should've taken more pics, but Lisa has this rad upside-down cake thingamobob with latches on the side and removable bottom.

Tah-dah! Lisa says it's common to put cherries in the center of the pineapples. The taste? For the most part, great. The pineapples turned out a bit bitter. I think it was because we sprinkled raw sugar on the pineapples instead of brown sugar.

Forgot to add Breach to my flick list. Also re-watched the last 007 film and it was even better the second time around:

Casino Royale
Breach
1408
The Lives of Others

300
Curse of the Golden Flower
Babel
The Departed
Pan's Labyrinth

...

Also recently finished Jeff Chang's Total Chaos, which will be a strong contender for the best book I've read this year. Some gems:

Why are we called the hip-hop generation?
Why aren't we the Jedi generation? Watching Jonzi D, Danny Hoch, and Sarah Jones in Jedi Theater? Looking for a Jedi platform to counter against conservative lies and liberal Waffling? Why do we follow Russell Simmons and P. Diddy toward empowerment and not Yoda?
"There is no try. Do or do not."

Then later:

Every day brings its challenge. Today it is the tragedy of autumn.
